The bear cubs were kept in a tiny metal cage on leash since visitors could pay extra to take a picture with them… While I was discussing with my partner that that is not how animals are supposed to be kept, saying they need larger spaces, more vegetation and more items to keep them engaged, a staff worker overheard me and told my partner to not trust what I was saying since it wasn’t true, with a very condescending tone toward me. The bears seemed malnourished, had deteriorated fur, and some of them where just pacing back and forth. In the cages there is no shade provided for the bears and the only natural element is a small tree in the middle (more like a twig than a tree to be honest). The bears are caged in small bare concrete boxes with no soft surface (the floor is just raw concrete besides some black rubber mats that I imagine get toasting hot in the sun). However as soon I stepped in the zoo I strongly regretted it: I thought seeing bears in their natural habitat was a very fitting choice during a trip in the mountains.
